Dog quotes from world-famous personalities. (A treat for Dog-lovers and a food for thought for the rest)

I believe this post would have all the already dog loving people smiling and nodding as they find themselves relate to people’s perception of Dogs from across continents and the rest of the readers seeing the very same dogs they encountered daily in a new light, who knows which might as well resemble a ‘halo’? Curated below is a list of quotes compiled about dogs from various famous personalities. Their nationality or field of excellence is varied, but what’s common is their unanimous heartfelt admiration for dogs. And by dogs, the reference is made to each and every dog breed on earth (yes, even those stray mutts we chance upon on our way work/home everyday) and not just the fancy ‘pure bred pedigree’ ones that are ‘sold’ with heavy ‘price-tags’!

Here you go…

  • “A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.”– Josh Billings (Humourist)

  • ”Dog is God spelled backward”- W. Bruce Cameron (Author of “A Dog’s Purpose”)

  • “Dogs’ lives are too short. Their only fault, really.” – Agnes Sligh Turnbull (Author of ”The Wedding Bargain”)

  • “Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.” – Roger Caras (Photographer and Writer)

  • “Some of my best leading men have been dogs and horses.” – Elizabeth Taylor (Actress)

  • “The better I get to know men, the more I find myself loving dogs.” – Charles De Gaulle (Former Prime Minister of France)

  • “To his dog, every man is Napoleon; hence the constant popularity of dogs.” – Aldous Huxley (Author of “Brave New World”)

  • “You can usually tell that a man is good if he has a dog who loves him.” – W. Bruce Cameron (Author, Columnist, Humorist)

  • “Dogs never bite me. Just Humans” – Marilyn Monroe (Actress)

  • “I have found that when you are deeply troubled, there are things you get from the silent devoted companionship of a dog that you can get from no other source.” – Doris Day (Actress)

  • “I am fond of pigs. Dogs look up to us. Cats look down on us. Pigs treat us as equals.” – Winston Churchill (Former British Prime Minister)

  • “The dog is a gentleman; I hope to go to his heaven not man’s.” – Mark Twain (Author of ”Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn”)

  • “If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went.” – Will Rogers (Humourist)

  • “Dogs are our link to paradise. They don’t know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring — it was peace.” – Milan Kundera (Author of “The Unbearable Lightness Of Being”)

  • “A lot of shelter dogs are mutts like me.” – Barack Obama (Ex-President of the United States)

  • “If you want a friend in Washington, get a dog.” – Harry Truman (Former President of the United States)

  • “There is no faith which has never yet been broken, except that of a truly faithful dog” – Konrad Lorenz (Zoologist)

  • “Owners of dogs will have noticed that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they will think you are god. Whereas owners of cats are compelled to realize that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they draw the conclusion that they are gods” – Christopher Hitchens (Author of ”The Portable Atheist”)

  • “All his life he tried to be a good person. Many times, however, he failed. For after all, he was only human. He wasn’t a dog.” – Charles M Schulz (Cartoonist, “Peanuts”)

  • “I think dogs are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love. For me, they are the role model for being alive.” – Gilda Radner (Comedian)

  • “If a dog will not come to you after having looked you in the face, you should go home and examine your conscience.” – Woodrow Wilson (Former U.S. President)

  • “The greatest fear dogs know is the fear that you will not come back when you go out the door without them.” – Stanley Coren (Psychologist and Author of ”The Intelligence Of Dogs”)

  • “Such short little lives our dogs have to spend with us, and they spend most of it waiting for us to come home each day.” – John Grogan (Author of “Marley & Me”)

  • “If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous he will not bite you. This is the principal difference between a dog and man.” – Mark Twain (Author of “The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer”)

  • “Dogs have given us their absolute all. We are the center of their universe. We are the focus of their love and faith and trust. They serve us in return for scraps. It is without a doubt the best deal man has ever made.” – Roger A. Caras (Author of ”A Dog Is Listening: The way some of our closest friends view us”)

Now I had a really tough time sorting out these from the infinite list available on the internet. But I had to keep it short, else it would have gone on forever. Such is the Canine soul. Dog-lovers must be having their heartstrings tugged at already and the skeptics must be having a comparatively lesser room left in their hearts, regarding the divinity of the Dog soul. Because obviously these immensely successful people have not been paid to endorse dogs (like celebrities who often have no idea what product or service they are selling or vouching for, but would confidently claim how life changingly amazing it has proven to them personally! And it does have the impact they are charging for, because even if most people deny, they do dig into them.) Whereas the ones who form the source of the quotes are all level headed wise people, who have proven their mettle, time and again, internationally. These statements come out straight from their hearts, based on their honest real-life experiences with Dogs. I along with the many people who have had the opportunity of being blessed with Canine companionship, thoroughly understand and appreciate the depth of each of the quotes above. Also I’m literally living for the day everyone else does too.

Godly Dogs

Hey! I am Srijana, the owner & author of this Web Log. I am from India. Academically, I did my Master's in English Literature and Human Resource Management. Passionately, I love 'dogs' first, then 'writing'. Professionally, I aspire to be a blogger, because that way I can pursue both my interests, which is 'writing' about 'dogs'. Leisurely, I love pampering my dogs at home along with doing whatever little things I can afford to, for the strays outside. When I'm not surrounded by my furry friends, I am on the internet, voraciously exploring things about canine kind, that even these years of (pup raising) experience have kept me unenlightened of. Spiritually, this is my dream job as it helps me raise awareness for the pup fearing/disliking (people) & enhance the lives of pup-parents (by sharing valuable content addressing their concerns) and of course keep myself connected to the very purpose of my life.
